Fender’s Custom Shop ’69 pickup set is the benchmark that all other ’60s voiced single coils are measured against. Alnico V magnets, with enamel wire wound to 5.8kΩ (usually they’re closer to 5.4k in reality) provide a snappy attack and woody overtones in spades.
I still prefer Seymour Duncan SSL-1s, with their formvar wire adding more ’50s flavoured sparkle, but this Fender set is excellent and in my opinion the best single coils they make.
