Mending Some Old Mojo


1961 Gibson ES-330 Repair

This week I was entrusted with this Gibson ES-330, made in 1961. It's been well loved and regularly played, which makes a nice change as most guitars of this age and value get put to rest in cases and then stored somewhere.

The P90 pickups are mellowed with age and wonderfully smooth. The biggest surprise was the neck, it feels remarkably modern, with a slim C shaped carve.

As to why I had it in the first place: the pots were knackered. Corrosion and worn out tracks everywhere. The original switch, wires, capacitors and jack were retained but the pots were swapped out for crisp new ones. Before and after pictures:
