Almost home. Final finishing, fretwork and assembly is all that remains. The finish is comprised of base coats of shellac, this seals in the stain and provides a platform that can be fine sanded smooth. This is followed by several coats of Tru-Oil, this adds further protection and shields the shella...

Once the neck is glued on it gets carved. This one is fairly standard, a slim modern C shape.

Shinto Japanese saw rasps are magnificent for this. After the neck is profiled its sanded to 320 and that's where it stays until its time for final finishing.

On the subject of finishing, the body is also sa...

Time to hollow out the body and get the top glued on.

This is the main chamber where the sound hole sits, there will be two other ones but this is by far the largest. The bulk of the material is hogged away with a forstner drill, then cleaned up with the router. The back and side walls are 8mm thick...

New Domino wrapped up, in all it’s ocean burst succulence.

aThe Bare Knuckle Irish Tour pickup set had way more midrange than I was expecting and they are too dark and mushy with 250k pots. I’ve had an anomalous 400k pot for ages (labelled as 500k but apparently quality control is for filthy casual...

The ocean burst is turning out quite nice. Getting the dye sealed in with plenty of shellac is always a relief, I had to spot sand and re-stain three times to get scratches out previously. Still a ways to go, building the gloss finish and polishing will take a few more days.

A more refined instrument than its predecessor, the padauk Sentinel #2 has a less extreme neck. The original neck was about as flat and thin as it could get, but this one is around 19mm thick at the 1st fret and 21mm at the 12th, with a more gentle C shaped carve. However, any talk of refinement go...
