Recorded a quick demo with this guitar before it gets sold. Duncan SSL-1s are the benchmark for 50s voiced vintage style single coils, plenty of sparkle without ever becoming brittle, this is what a strat is supposed to sound like in my opinion.

This Halloween a monster was born in the lab.

Two different recordings of its Bare Knuckle Nailbombs (Ceramic) in action:

Had to strip the headstock and redo the veneer in bubinga to match the body, it’s these sort of things that keep me up at night. As much as I liked the figured eucalyptus this works much better now.

Drilled the holes for the bridge and for the strings so that they feed through the body. I had to do...

Frets are in, leveled, crowned and slot gaps have been filled with glue and ebony dust. The neck pocket turned out to be damn near perfect so it seemed wrong to do anything except pin and glue the neck (I was considering bolt-on).

I wanted to get the neck pickup as close to the 24th fret as possible...

I decided on a 45° bevel all around rather than rounding over, considering the body is so thin it suits it quite well. As my router and I aren’t seeing eye to eye (I had massive tear out on a fretboard end grain) I did this by hand.

Did the cavities too (router forgiven out of necessity), front and...

Made this contraption to help me get my scarf joints flat and true, there’s sandpaper on the underside of the sled and the slope is 12°.

Headstock glued on and truss rod channel routed:

12th fret detail:

The ebony board sanded to 4000 grit starts to get one hell of a sheen, there’s no oil or varnish...

Two piece waterfall bubinga with maple fillets, measuring a svelte 32mm thick.

The hardware for it came this week; Bare Knuckle Nailbombs, Hipshot tuners and hardtail bridge, all in black.

She’s all done.

Demo included, hear those Mother's Milk pickups in action!

Been playing with a set of the Nailbomb humbuckers from Bare Knuckle, with the intention of using them in a future build (the next one). I’m as guilty as anyone when it comes to using bullshit terms for describing tone, and today I’m going with “thick” and “articulate”. There’s plenty of output, but...

Probably the best small (and very cheap) practice amp you can get if you’re only after tube like cleans and want to avoid the modelling style amps. Vox discontinued this a few years ago which is a shame, however they can be found on Ebay if you’re patient. I picked mine up for £70.
